O2 Optix Custom? is the first and only made-to-order silicone hydrogel lens from a worldwide leader in silicone hydrogel technology. Unlike stocked silicone hydrogel contact lenses which are cast molded, custom lenses generally require high-precision lathing. Since pure silicone is very rubbery and doesn?t lend itself to being cut on a lathe, CIBA Vision material chemists invented an exciting new silicone hydrogel formulation called sifilcon A that has a unique property that allows it to be lathed. O2 Optix Custom? features a patented, permanent, biocompatible plasma surface treatment that resists deposits to contribute to healthy lens wear. With this unique surface treatment, O2 Optix Custom? contact lenses can be worn comfortably for up to three months of daily wear.
